Yule: Prosperity Candle with Nina

Inspired by Silver Ravenwolf

When I think of winter, I think of snow, simmering mulling spices, bright citrus fruits, gold and silver tinsel! It is with those things in mind that I bring to you a working (spell) for all ages. I’ve been making this craft since I was wee, and recently found a version of it with some fun variations I had never thought of including, so I’ve made note of those below.

Materials:

-Candle wax cubes or flakes: you could warm an existing unscented candle you have at home, and use the wax. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

-Ruby red grapefruit or large, navel oranges: growing up I made this with grapefruit because it made for a larger candle and a longer burn time, but oranges are more traditional. Either way, choose for the outside appearance of the rind.

-Grapefruit/citrus spoon: regular spoon or a butter knife works too.

-Candle wick and anchor: they are sold as one in most craft stores, or can be purchased separately.

-Herbs & spices: use what suits your working and aesthetic; cloves, rosemary, star anise, cinnamon, etc..

-Glitter (optional): a Silver Ravenwolf suggestion that begs the question: HOW did I not think of this as a kid?! I’ll be using white, translucent because it reminds me of snow, and gold for well, wealth! Silver is also great, as is green.

-Coins (optional): this is another addition that I thought was super neat! Silver Ravenwolf recommended using Chinese prosperity coins, but I imagine you can use any that are shiny!

-Fragrance oils (optional): you can amplify your working with scents that attract abundance and wealth, such as patchouli, bergamot, orange, etc..

-Wax color/dye (optional)

Tools:

Toothpick or skewer, tray to catch mess, microwave, microwave-safe dish, popsicle or stir-stick for wax
