Yule: Elemental Yule Ornaments with Nina

The premise for this craft is simple, and you can make it as basic or ornate as you choose. The basis of the ornament is to represent each of the elements on each of the five points of a pentacle: earth; air; fire; water; spirit. Conversely, one could also create five pentacles, on which each element is represented, and affix them to a mobile or hanging of sorts. These crafts are perfect for a Yuletide gift exchange!

Materials:

  • Popsicle sticks: try more than one size for variety, or if making a mobile!

  • Adhesive: I recommend hot glue for fast results, but school glue is great for time to adjust the angles of your pentacles.

  • Glitter or paint (optional): for decorating the popsicle sticks

  • Twine or ribbon

  • Stick or small branch (optional): if doing mobile or hanging

  • Representation for earth: pebble, pinecone, moss, dried/paper leaf, pine needles, or something green.

  • Representation for air: mini bell, feather, cone incense, sleigh bell, wing or bird-shaped bead, or something yellow or silver.

  • Representation for fire: stick matches, ½ a birthday candle, sun, dried chili pepper, piece of cinnamon stick, or something red.

  • Representation for water: shells, sea glass, driftwood, fish shapes, seaweed (nori!), or something blue.

  • Representation for Spirit: spirals, circles, wheels, rainbows, clouds (cotton balls!), anything unicorn, glittery things, or something purple or iridescent.

Tools:

Scissors, hot glue gun, paint brushes
